Drew rolls up with 400+ blanks and two professional cutting machines on the truck. Every key gets tested in your lock on the spot. If it sticks, he recuts it at no charge.

Whether you need a single house key copy or 200 master-keyed blanks for a commercial property, Alberta Lock delivers accurate cuts, restricted-key expertise, and the convenience of on-site service across Calgary and surrounding communities.

What we cut

400+ blanks and two cutting machines

The mobile unit carries over 400 key blanks and two professional-grade cutting machines, covering the vast majority of residential, commercial, and specialty keys at your door.

  • Standard house keys: Schlage, Weiser, Kwikset, and other common residential keyways.
  • Deadbolt and entry-set keys: single-cylinder and double-cylinder for front, side, and garage entries.
  • Mailbox and padlock keys: small-format keys for Canada Post community mailboxes and utility locks.
  • Commercial and institutional keys: Corbin Russwin, Sargent, Best (SFIC) keyways.
  • High-security keys: select restricted and patented keyways (with proper authorization).
  • Cabinet, desk, and furniture keys: tubular and flat-steel for filing cabinets, desks, displays.

If you're not sure whether Alberta Lock stocks your blank, snap a photo of both sides of the key and text it. Drew will confirm before booking.

Why professional

Precision over the hardware-store kiosk

Self-serve kiosk machines at big-box stores seem convenient, but they produce inconsistent results. A 2022 Consumer Reports test found that automated kiosks failed to produce a working copy roughly 20 percent of the time.

  • Precision calibration using depth-and-space gauges, not optical scanning.
  • Blank selection matched to your exact keyway, preventing wobble and premature lock wear.
  • Immediate testing in your lock on the spot. A kiosk copy that fails means a second trip.
  • Expert diagnosis: the lock can be decoded to factory specification, avoiding the "copy of a copy" drift.

Cut by code

New keys without the original

Lost every copy of your house key? You don't need an original for Drew to make a new one.

  1. Decode the lock: remove the cylinder or use a plug follower to read the pin depths.
  2. Look up the bitting: some locks carry a stamped code that maps to a specific cut pattern.
  3. Cut to factory specs: original depth-and-space values produce a key that works as well as the day the lock was installed.

Cut-by-code eliminates the guesswork of duplicating a worn key. It also serves renters and property managers who inherit a building without a full key set.

Restricted keys

What we cannot duplicate (and why)

Certain keyways carry legal or patent restrictions that prevent unauthorized duplication. Alberta Lock respects these restrictions because they exist to protect your security.

  • Medeco: patented keyways require an authorization card from the registered owner.
  • Mul-T-Lock: Interactive and MT5+ use a secondary locking element with restricted blank distribution.
  • Abloy: disc-detainer keyways (Protec, Protec2) require factory authorization.
  • Schlage Primus: side-milled keyways. Blanks ship only to authorized dealers.

If you own a restricted-key system and hold a valid authorization card, Alberta Lock can often facilitate the order through the manufacturer's dealer network.

Worked with Drew to rekey our new-to-us home, ran into some trouble with a bad cylinder and despite a small wait, he managed to get everything sorted out and in clean working order. I would vouch for him and recommend him to others for his transparent pricing and commendable workmanship. Thanks for taking care of our family Drew!

Called Drew late afternoon and he was able to come over on his way home to have a look at fixing the mechanism on my antique door handle assembly. Drew was not familiar with the style of the handle but through troubleshooting and persistence, he was able to resolve the issue saving me several hundreds of dollars in a new handle mechanism. Works great now. I would definitely call them again and recommend his services to family and friends.

I would highly recommend this company. Professional, efficient, and excellent customer service. Drew even vacuumed my front mat afterwards and cleaned up after the job was done!

A silly whoops, left the keys in the car. But this beauty of a man came in decent time, even when delayed he called us to let us know. When he arrived it couldn't have taken more than five minutes. Absolutely no damage to the car, and he was polite the whole time. Take it from a girl who's used to scams and shady people, if you're panicking and don't know what to do, use this company. Any car locksmith is expensive, but this one is reasonable. Again, thank you.

I highly recommend Alberta Lock! Drew was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. All the other places I called expected me to be an expert on security and locks. They gave me so much overwhelming information and asked me a lot of questions. But when I called Drew and explained what I was looking for, he guided me to the right solutions really quickly and easily. He was available when we needed him, provided updates on arrival time and throughout the job, and got the work done quickly and with great quality. Drew was also very polite and professional, and I would definitely hire him again!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does key cutting cost in Calgary?
Alberta Lock uses flat-rate pricing based on the blank type and cutting method. Rates vary by keyway, so the full schedule lives on the pricing page. Text a photo of your key and the quantity you need for a quick, exact quote.
Can you cut a key without the original?
Yes. Drew uses a process called cut-by-code, which decodes the pin depths inside your lock and cuts a new key to factory specifications. This works for most residential and commercial locks, even when every copy has been lost.
Do you come to my location, or do I need to visit a shop?
Alberta Lock operates as a fully mobile service. Drew drives to your home, office, or job site anywhere in Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, or Okotoks and cuts your keys on the truck-mounted workstation while you wait.
Can you duplicate Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, or other restricted keys?
Restricted keyways like Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, Abloy, and Schlage Primus require an authorization card from the registered owner. If you hold valid authorization, Alberta Lock can facilitate the order through the manufacturer's dealer network. Without authorization, duplication is not permitted.
How long does it take to cut a key on-site?
A standard key duplication takes roughly two to three minutes per key. Including setup, testing each key in the lock, and payment, most single-key appointments finish in under 15 minutes.
Do you offer bulk key cutting for property managers or contractors?
Yes. Alberta Lock handles volume orders for multi-unit residential buildings, construction projects, office suites, and retail locations. Volume orders receive priority scheduling, and established commercial accounts qualify for net-30 invoicing.
Is Alberta Lock licensed and insured?
Alberta Lock holds provincial locksmith licence B001472 (valid through January 27, 2027) under the Security Services and Investigators Act. The business carries $5,000,000 general aggregate liability insurance underwritten by Tokio Marine Canada Ltd.
