Every job below is performed personally by Drew MacIVER. No subcontractors, no dispatch model. The person who answers your call is the person at your door.

Residential

Lockouts, rekeys, deadbolt upgrades for Calgary homes

A home lockout at 11 p.m. feels stressful. A broken deadbolt after a break-in attempt feels worse. Alberta Lock handles both, plus the proactive upgrades that prevent problems before they start.

  • Emergency lockouts with non-destructive entry that preserves your hardware and finish
  • Lock rekeying after a move, tenancy change, or lost key
  • Deadbolt installs: Grade 1 and Grade 2 from Schlage, Weiser, and Medeco
  • Smart lock setup for Schlage Encode Plus, Yale Assure 2, August Wi-Fi
  • Broken key extraction without damaging the cylinder

Every residential job complies with applicable provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada (s.351 and s.353), which regulate possession and use of break-in instruments. Drew's licence (B001472) verifies that authorization.

  • Master key systems with tiered access for managers, tenants, and maintenance
  • High-security cylinders from Medeco and Mul-T-Lock with restricted keyways
  • Panic bars and exit devices that meet Alberta fire code
  • Access control integration with electronic strikes, maglocks, and keypads

Losing your only car key in 2024 doesn't mean a tow to the dealership and a $600 wait. Drew programs transponder keys and key fobs on-site using professional-grade diagnostic tools, typically within 30 to 60 minutes.

  • Car lockouts: non-destructive entry for virtually all makes and model years
  • Transponder key cutting and programming for Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, and more
  • Key fob replacement and cloning for proximity keys and push-to-start remotes
  • Broken key extraction from ignition cylinders and door locks

Why Calgary chooses Alberta Lock

Three verifiable facts, not marketing slogans

  1. Provincially licensed (B001472). Alberta's Security Services and Investigators Act requires locksmiths to hold a valid licence. Many competitors operating in Calgary do not. Ask for a number and compare.
  2. Fully insured through Tokio Marine Canada Ltd. General liability coverage protects you and your property. Drew carries proof to every job.
  3. Owner-operator, Drew and the team. When you call, Drew answers. Drew or a trusted team member arrives. One accountable point of contact from first call to finished job.

Alberta Lock Inc. operates as a registered Alberta corporation (Corporate Access #2023370154). Drew MacIVER serves as sole director, a structure that ties personal accountability directly to business performance.

Transparent pricing, flat-rate bands

Most locksmith websites hide pricing because vague quotes create room to inflate the bill on-site. Alberta Lock takes the opposite approach: flat-rate pricing bands published here, confirmed before work begins, and collected only after you approve the finished job.

Residential lockout $100 to $200
Lock rekey (per cylinder) $30 to $60
Deadbolt installation $100 to $300
Car lockout $100 to $200
Transponder key cut + programmed $180 to $440
Commercial rekey / master key Quoted per scope

Price varies within each band based on hardware type, time of service, and complexity. Drew confirms your exact price by phone or text before driving to you. No hidden call-out fees. No "diagnostic charges" added on-site.

Worked with Drew to rekey our new-to-us home, ran into some trouble with a bad cylinder and despite a small wait, he managed to get everything sorted out and in clean working order. I would vouch for him and recommend him to others for his transparent pricing and commendable workmanship. Thanks for taking care of our family Drew!

Called Drew late afternoon and he was able to come over on his way home to have a look at fixing the mechanism on my antique door handle assembly. Drew was not familiar with the style of the handle but through troubleshooting and persistence, he was able to resolve the issue saving me several hundreds of dollars in a new handle mechanism. Works great now. I would definitely call them again and recommend his services to family and friends.

A silly whoops, left the keys in the car. But this beauty of a man came in decent time, even when delayed he called us to let us know. When he arrived it couldn't have taken more than five minutes. Absolutely no damage to the car, and he was polite the whole time. Take it from a girl who's used to scams and shady people, if you're panicking and don't know what to do, use this company. Any car locksmith is expensive, but this one is reasonable. Again, thank you.

I highly recommend Alberta Lock! Drew was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. All the other places I called expected me to be an expert on security and locks. They gave me so much overwhelming information and asked me a lot of questions. But when I called Drew and explained what I was looking for, he guided me to the right solutions really quickly and easily. He was available when we needed him, provided updates on arrival time and throughout the job, and got the work done quickly and with great quality. Drew was also very polite and professional, and I would definitely hire him again!

Frequently Asked Questions

Below you'll find answers to the questions Calgary residents ask most often about locksmith services, pricing, and credentials.

Is Alberta Lock a licensed locksmith in Calgary?
Yes. Alberta Lock Inc. holds Provincial Licence B001472, issued under Alberta's Security Services and Investigators Act. Owner-operator Drew MacIVER is the licensed individual behind the business, and you can verify this licence number through Alberta's licensing registry. Alberta's locksmith licensing requirements exist alongside sections 351 and 353 of the Criminal Code of Canada, which regulate possession and use of break-in instruments.
How much does a locksmith cost in Calgary?
Alberta Lock publishes flat-rate pricing bands: residential lockouts run $100 to $200, car lockouts $100 to $200, lock rekeying $30 to $60 per cylinder (plus service call), and transponder car key replacement $180 to $440 depending on vehicle platform. Drew confirms your exact price before dispatching, so no hidden fees appear on-site.
How fast can a locksmith get to me in Calgary?
Alberta Lock targets a 20 to 40 minute response window for emergency lockouts across all four Calgary quadrants (SE, SW, NE, NW) and Downtown. Actual arrival time depends on your location and current traffic. Drew provides an ETA during your initial phone call.
Do you serve areas outside Calgary city limits?
Alberta Lock provides mobile locksmith service to Airdrie, Cochrane, and Okotoks in addition to all Calgary neighbourhoods. A small travel surcharge applies outside city limits, and Drew quotes that amount before dispatching so the total cost is clear upfront.
Can you make a new car key if I lost all my keys?
Yes. Drew carries professional-grade diagnostic tools and blank key stock for the 40 most common vehicle platforms in Calgary. Transponder keys and key fobs can typically be cut and programmed on-site within 30 to 60 minutes, with no tow to the dealership required. Pricing ranges from $180 to $440 depending on your vehicle's make, model, and key technology.
What's the difference between rekeying and replacing locks?
Rekeying changes the internal pin configuration of your existing lock so old keys stop working and new keys take over. The lock hardware stays in place. Replacing means removing the entire lock and installing new hardware. Rekeying costs $30 to $60 per cylinder and makes sense when your existing locks function well but you need to change key access, for example after moving into a new home or ending a rental tenancy. Drew recommends which option fits your situation during the quote call.
Does Alberta Lock carry insurance?
Alberta Lock Inc. carries general liability and professional liability insurance through Tokio Marine Canada Ltd. Drew brings proof of insurance to every job and provides a copy on request. This coverage protects your property in the unlikely event of damage during service, a safeguard that unlicensed and uninsured operators cannot offer.
